Austin Simonds [b.1996 in El Paso, Texas] is a composer/pianist and multi-instrumentalist who is primarily interested in dark themes relating to or drawing inspiration from the human psyche. He has worked with choreographers, filmmakers, and music theater directors in collaborations and other projects, although most of his work focuses primarily on concert music. Most recently, his chamber piece, Infernus Sequebatur Eum..., was selected as the winner of the Pi Kappa Lambda Undergraduate Competition.
His composition teachers at the University of North Texas have included Dr. Ermir Bejo, Dr. Kirsten Broberg, and Dr. Andrew May. Piano instructors include Tim Giradot, Dr. Yang Ding, and Lizhen Wu. He currently studies piano under Dr. Eldred Marshall. Austin is on track to complete both a Bachelors of Music degree in Composition and Music Theory in May of 2018.
